not that I'd like to defend Mariah Carey, but this quote was attributed to her as a joke, a rumor, made up by San Francisco Internet zine Cupcake in August '96, then picked up by the BBC, London Independent, and San Francisco Chronicle. The quote caused one irate Carey fan to respond "making fun of Mariah is wrong". Wrong. Making fun of Mariah is funny. -- SPIN, Jan 97 issue, p.24
